Juneau Skating Club Basic Skills Competition
The Juneau Skating Club congratulates all of our skaters on their fantastic performances during the 2013 JSC Basic Skills Competition. Skaters from Basic Skills level 3 through Pre-Preliminary and Adult Bronze competed to demonstrate the skills they have mastered throughout the year. And thanks to the many hours put in by coaches, parent volunteers, board members, and Treadwell Arena staff in making this years competition a great success. Great job!
Juneau Skating Club represented at Regionals
Juneau Skating Club figure skaters Laurie Balstad, Skylar Cooney, Ema Jessen, and Gabriella Sloan recently competed at the Northwest Pacific Regional Figure Skating Championships in Eugene, Oregon. Juneau was well represented by all skaters with Skylar and Ema earning medals for third and fourth place in their respective competition groups. The Regional Championships are the first qualifying event leading to National, World, and Olympic competitions. This is a tremendous accomplishment as figure skating requires considerable dedication to training, and national testing often requires travel outside of Juneau. With Treadwell Arena closed during the summer, Juneau figure skaters must travel to attend summer training camps, testing sessions, and competitions. JSC figure skaters are currently developing show programs to be performed during the Holiday Show on December 9.
